How does it happen?
Paints are a common source of lead to which children are exposed. These paints are present on the toys, crayons, colors, paints . Old lead pipes are an important source of lead in the environment. Besides these, lead is in the air as a pollutant from the burning of fuel, gasoline etc,
Some symptoms of lead poisoning include:
Anemia
Poor appetite
loss of appetite
Poor concentration
Stomach pain, Constipation, Cramps
Vomiting
Headache etc
How can lead poisoning be prevented?
- Avoid exposure to lead containing products
- Ensure chidlren wash their hands properly after using paints, colors etc
- Ensure that children do NOT put painted toys in the mouth
- Ensure that children do NOT put crayons or color pencils in the mouth
- Change all old lead pipes in the home
- Make sure that children do NOT lick the paint on the walls etc.
